3D Controls (CEO Sang-kyu Lee), a Korean ceramic 3D printing specialist, is establishing infrastructure for mass production of customized ceramic parts and expanding collaborations with domestic and international companies.
3D Controls announced on the 22nd that it has established a "Production Technology Research Center" within the Seongnam Knowledge Industry Center in Gyeonggi Province in Korea and has begun preliminary development for a customized ceramic parts production process utilizing 3D printing technology.
The research center features a self-developed ceramic manufacturing FARM platform for mass production, comprised of six 3D printers, one washer, twelve sintering furnaces, and two polishers, along with a dedicated workforce.
The center will promote standardization of all processes for ceramic mass production, including 3D printing, heat treatment, finishing, and quality assurance, using key materials such as alumina and zirconia.
In particular, efficient analysis and quality control of outputs during the ceramic production process are key factors for product market entry. Therefore, the company plans to focus on researching complex physical testing and process optimization solutions to ensure consistent yields in repetitive production.
3D Controls plans to expand its FARM platform to a global network, enabling participation from specialized partner companies in the advanced ceramics market, including Korea, Europe, the US, and Japan.
A 3D Controls representative stated, "Through global collaboration, we will be able to respond immediately to local mass production demands in real time, not just lab-scale prototypes. This will dramatically reduce time and costs compared to traditional manufacturing methods, allowing us to focus more on our respective technological capabilities."
Meanwhile, 3D Controls' headquarters is located in Busan, and its Busan research center handles R&D on equipment and materials. The establishment of the Seongnam research center is expected to lead the way in revitalizing the related market through mass production of advanced ceramic components, solidifying its position in the global ceramics market.
Companies and institutions wishing to visit the lab, participate in joint research, or participate in the platform can refer to the 3D Controls website.
